Praying in the Spirit

Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Ephesians 6:18

Prayer is one of the beautiful examples of our interaction with the Trinity. We pray to the Father, through Christ Jesus the Son, in the Holy Spirit.

Jesus said, “When I am raised to life again, you will know that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you” John 14:20. He is ‘in’ us by the presence of God the Holy Spirit. “He is the Holy Spirit, who leads into all truth… you know him, because he lives with you now and later will be in you” John 14:17.

He is in us and we are in Him. We pray by the Holy Spirit in us, and we pray in the Holy Spirit, the Life of God in which we live and move and have our being.

Historically, many Christians began the day, actually began all times of prayer, acknowledging the Holy Spirit, addressing their first prayer to Him. In doing this we position our heart and mind to listen, surrender, contend, intercede, and open our hearts to all He may lead us to pray.

As you pray this prayer, consider how it aligns your spirit with the Holy Spirit and your heart with the heart of Jesus.

O Heavenly King,
the Comforter,
the Spirit of Truth,
Who is everywhere present and filling all things,
Treasury of Blessings
and Giver of Life.
Come and abide in us,
and cleanse us from every impurity
and save our souls,
O Good One.

Consider starting this way each time you pray. Be aligned with God in the Spirit.

Sincerely,
Ed
