And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us… John 1:14a
This is the Incarnation, the Son of God, born into the world the way all babies are born, messy, raw, real, flesh and blood. Christmas is the enfleshment of God.
Hopeless, sin-filled, humanity, lost and wandering, dead and dormant, was, suddenly, shockingly, invaded by the Holy One. Flesh would no longer be under a death sentence, how could it be? Christ becoming flesh at once sanctified the flesh and redeemed it’s beauty, gave hope, brought deliverance, enlivened the senses and restored the intended meaning and sanctity of life.
This is why Christmas is such a celebration! The world was changed that day! Life, love, hope, mercy and grace had come—freedom, like never before! Rejoice!
It is a day for the senses, taste the sweetness of God, marvel at the star, the lights, the music and sounds of joy! Touch Him, He is real, He was cuddled, He nursed, cried, grew, stumbled, ran, laughed, played, bled—lived! God became man.
Celebrate—party! Christ the Lord was born this day and the world will never be the same. No matter how dark and dire life may be, from the persecuted church in Nigeria, to the misunderstood believers in Palestine—from the underground church in China, to the homeless mother trying to navigate life from her car, there is hope. Christmas. Christ is here.
Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Luke 2:10-11 NKJV
Christ is born—the Word became flesh!
Merry Christmas!
